What it is
The Capital Area Beekeepers Association (CABA) is a first-party, non-profit beekeeping club for the Louisiana capital region, meeting monthly in Baton Rouge. Its home page says CABA “supports beekeeping and bee education in the Louisiana Capital Area. We meet every second Tuesday of the month to network, to discuss best practices and common issues that are affecting bees.” The club runs monthly member meetings with a potluck and an equipment yard sale, hive-side “Bee School” sessions at a teaching apiary, mentoring and apiary visits, and a spring pre-order program for bees from local commercial beekeepers. It is not a hive-equipment shop and not a university certificate pathway.
Who it’s for
New and experienced beekeepers in the Baton Rouge area, and people who want to start. The home page says, “If you want to become a beekeeper, join our monthly membership meetings, training at our CABA apiary,” and invites members to request an apiary visit or a beekeeping mentor. Membership levels include Hobbyist/Family, Commercial, Apiary Research, Pollination Services and Friends of CABA (for non-beekeepers). Not a drop-in store and not an online course.
Why it’s listed
This is a first-party Local club. Its official pages print a fixed monthly meeting rule, a meeting venue, dated upcoming meetings and teaching sessions, published dues and bylaws.
